The business

A growing, founder led business in the product and distribution space, supplying specialist equipment into trade customers across the UK. The company has been operating for over 15 years, is profitable, and has built its reputation on reliable service and long standing customer relationships.

The finance team is small and close knit, supporting a wider team of around 40 staff. The founder and General Manager are both commercially minded and rely on finance for clear numbers and straight answers rather than polished presentations.

The role

This is a broad Management Accountant role in a business where finance sits close to the day to day running of the company. You will take ownership of the monthly numbers, support budgeting and forecasting, and act as a steady pair of hands for the founder when it comes to understanding performance.

It would suit someone who enjoys variety, is comfortable in an SME environment, and does not need a large team structure around them.

Key responsibilities

• Preparation of monthly management accounts with commentary

• Accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations

• Margin analysis by product line and customer

• Supporting the annual budget and periodic forecasts

• Cashflow reporting and working capital monitoring

• VAT returns and liaison with external accountants on year end

• Reviewing existing processes and tightening controls where needed

• Ad hoc analysis to support pricing and stock decisions

About you

• Previous experience in a Management Accountant or similar role

• Part qualified, qualified, or qualified by experience all considered

• Comfortable working in a small business environment

• Confident using Excel and a mainstream accounting system

• Able to explain numbers in a clear and simple way

• Someone who takes responsibility and follows things through
